Missing here....busy there

A little update ....

We are still enjoying hanging out together in this time of different....but we had a to do list while we had the time....other than lots of coffee dates!

Our home of 16 years ( we bought it when it was 8 years old) has been in desperate need of some attention. We have had some structural issues that have plagued us for a few years....

Finally with the right help...some time and a little money up our sleeves we have begun to tackle it all.....
but we all know that one thing leads to another....

So excuse the lack of interest here in this space while we work hard to give our home the tender loving care it needs ..new roof structure, ceilings installed and now onto some major painting hours....

The changing days

I am loving these days......
days that are not filled with plans, just enough on the to do list to still breath
The weather is ever changing....flitting between the end of Winter and the start of Spring

I have spent a bit of time wondering what the Spring will bring us as a family..
New birth of ideas..... places, people or maybe just some
re birthing of the old

I do know that our path is a good one....that the plans in store for us a great....and as they are being revealed I am constantly reminded to savour the moment...smell the roses....
be thankful for what we have now...and also thankful for what we are still to gain.

A wander in our garden as the sun was shining...showed me that there are things that are lying in wait for the next season one that is warmer and filled with people and sharing what we have in our hands....
all just waiting to burst into full beauty..

A cause for celebration

As the chief keeper of our family memories I like to think I take this job seriously.....in the past I scrap booked everything.
Then i discovered blogging and did both for a while.....but lately it is just this space here that is the prime place of recording the happenings in family. The uncertainty of our path, the highlights, the boring normal and the celebrations.

So forgive me for indulging me in this one celebration that happened last month that I neglected to record.
You see it is nice to know I have a few people pop in and leave lovely comments...but I also do this whole blogging thing to leave a record, a transcript with pictures for my family......

So after 21 months..

Hey presto.....

A cause for celebration in our house and especially for the owner of the new beautiful smile.

Is memory keeping and recording important to you?
Are you the chief keeper of such important stuff?

Lessons in Motherhood...

We had a baby come to stay for the night this week.........and if our teen wasn't already sure that she had dreams and ambitions to pursue before then she sure does now.....

As part of her Children and Families subject at school she bought home the "teaching baby".

There was great excitement about maybe how fun it would be...she was taking the achieving high marks very seriously....we dug out some cute baby clothes to personalise the experience...
all was traveling well between 3 pm and 6pm....not much action...happy to be sleeping....

But like all good babies dinner was served and the baby needed attention...leaving her dinner cold on the table.

I had to be out for the evening and upon my return at 10pm I heard a strange but familiar sound..... venturing to the teens room I found her attending to the baby - much disgruntled because she had just fallen off to sleep.
I left her to it...closing all doors between her and the rest of the household.

7am came around quickly and I set off to make sure all were getting ready for school.....in the teens room I found not a happy mummy but a grisly tired bear. The baby had needed hourly attention and for this teen, sleep is not a luxury but a necessity.

She had to record throughout the experience what attention she gave the baby, what it had interrupted and how she was feeling... let me tell you the log progressed something like this...

3pm Okay
6pm Okay
10pm tired
11pm tired
12pm HEADACHE!!!!!!
1pm tired
2pm tired........

well you get the picture.

I found the baby propped in the corner of the bed...no clothes on ( because apparently the clothes got in the way during the night)

Poor lovely...she said she felt like she was going crazy during the night.....her mind was doing strange things!!

I explained that lack of sleep and having to be on the ball for a dependent baby is no mean feat....
Also that the nine months preparation you get of interrupted sleep prepares you a little better for the little bundle ...plus there is something that happens at that point and you fall completely in love with the addition......

A little different that bringing in animate object home that seems completely out of control....

So clearly and thankfully this is one life change that she clearly is not ready for and hopefully will not be ready any time in the very near future

She was peeved as she didn't get the highest score even though she was so diligent at being right onto the first sounds the baby made......

Ahhhh one day she will understand and by then I will be better prepared to be a good grandmother. x

Enjoying where we are...

It's been a couple of weeks now since we returned from holidays....

When we left we were both facing changes in our vocations......for my husband the end of a 20 year career
and
for me , less drastic, but a halving of my hours and responsibilities.

We weren't sure how to feel really about what life was going to look like for us as a family.

While we still aren't sure where this is all taking us but what we do know is that.....

My lovely man and I are just loving the freedom that this time in our life is giving us.
Yes we will have to re-establish our work lives but for right now we are enjoying the blessing of being able to breath deeper, enjoy the most perfect of winter days, drink our tea slower, plan the evening meal together, head off and watch school carnivals, dream what may be and savour just being present.
We have a few projects at home that need our attention and I am not finished with my ongoing decluttering mission but having time to walk , talk, brainstorm and dare I say exercise is a luxury we will not be taking for granted.

I'm interested in what you would do if you suddenly had a whole bunch of time on your hands?
