What a Bazaar {Blogtoberfest 28}

Another most amazing place we discovered while in Melbourne was the

Chapel Street Bazaar.

This was on our list of places to check out while looking for some vintage bargains!!!!!

Oh My Gosh...what a mind blowing place for anyone looking for anything !

This place has over 80 different dealers showcasing their collections....some were deceased estates, some just selling off their personal collections.

Every item was individually priced and you made your choice then it all went through the one check out counter at the front.

we were told there was an 18 month waiting list for a month lease on the free standing cabinets alone.......

I have never seen such a mine field of goods...you name it and you would have found it...

My whole childhood and growing up years were found in that building...from toys , to things I ate off, to  things I used at school.

Photos don't do  justice to this place ..all I can say is you have to see it to believe it.

This is what I really wanted to leave with in my bag.......

but for $950 I had to rethink.

It was a fantastic strapless lined dress made from doilies.

This is what I did purchase though......

I remember my nan giving me one of these when I was a tween......don't know what ever happened to it...

Now I have my very own again.

Fur Find

I know I have said this many times before but...

I miss my mum heaps and after 13 years of her gone I am still being wowed by the things she left us (that being myself and my two beautiful sisters).

I spent the day with one of my sisters on Friday and we had a bit of fun in her wardrobe space.

I say fun because it is always fun when it is not your own stuff being sorted and parted with ...right?

We came across a bag of clothes that we both knew were kicking around but hadn't seen or thought too much of for some time.

Oh I couldn't believe my eyes when I spied this......

It is so exquisite...so funky....so soft...so vintage....so REAL!

It fits perfectly and the hidden pockets in the front just finish it off.

I brought it home in order to do some research on it's history,,,,,

So far we have come up with not much....maybe a date -1934 but not much else...

 I don't even know what the fur is but it is long and really soft.

I am going to keep trying because such a piece requires some history.

My Meg is horrified that anyone would want to wear such a thing  and I know it is probably socially so wrong....but I would just love the opportunity to go somewhere elegant to wear it!!

I also now know that the correct name for a fur maker is a furrier!

What I discovered

While moving things on the weekend, I discovered a couple of lost treasures.....

A tin of my maternal grandmother's crocheting cottons....

She could crochet like a pro...the finest detailed crocheting you could ever hope to see. I remember her crocheting a bedspread for my parents 1 1/2 metre high bed.....I could only dream of such skill..

The other thing I found was my very first sewing boxes...the blue one I remember having when I was about eight. I used to spend holidays with my paternal grandmother and she delighted in teaching me to embroider and all other kinds of stitching.

The brown case came a couple of years later and was slightly bigger to hold more things. Again I think it came as a gift from my grandmother.....

and lastly.....

I couldn't part with Taylor's dolls cot and some of her very favourite teddies...

they will sit under my table until I find the perfect spot for them.

Attire Dilemma over???

There was another reason to head out yesterday afternoon...remember my wedding attire dilemma? Well with the wedding just one week away, I was still undecided if my plans were going to come off....A while ago I saw a shop mentioned over here and thought I would check it out one day....well that day was yesterday and too my lovely surprise there was another fantastic shop right next door.....

With half expecting to not have any luck I headed inside ...and look what I found....

My size perfectly...a little sleeve which was a must.....long (not a mini) which was another requirement for me....now just to find my girdle the perfect under garment!!!

I couldn't resist this crocheted cardigan either...

...the boys waiting to give there once over and stamp of approval.
