Slow Cooked Ribs...

I have had my slow cooker for a few weeks now. We have had some very delicious meals using this wonder pot.....

But on the weekend we had the best one.....it was mouth watering, sweet , melt in your mouth......

Spare Ribs cooked in Coca cola....I was very suspect about this concept...I am secretly a "coke" drinker  but was it going to work with spare ribs.... that are not the cheapest cut of meat to buy.

My hubbie was very keen right from the start to try it.....

Oh my,  you must try it if you haven't...mmmmmmmm
I asked him which recipe he used so I could share.....he is not sure...he kind of looked at a few and then went it alone...
This is normal for him....
So if you like the sound of spare ribs in Coca-Cola...just Google it and you will come up with an array of choices.

The Family Gang

While we were off enjoying our fabulous holiday we left the children in the very capable hands of my middle sister.....I say capable because she already has four energetic boys of her own and not only did she offer to have our two......

But

she took them 600km north of here to join our baby sister and her five little ones to look after a friends farm........

They were in such good hands and they had the best fun.....the best of it was hanging with 9 other cousins.......

They were hard to pin down for Skype calls ....

They returned with so many stories.....a bucket load of photos and memories tucked away.

So my sister is a hero for stepping in for us.....both my sisters should be honored for their support   ......

The trouble has been the come down from having a gang to hang with....back to just each other...

Lucky we are back at school this week.....all pinning for a little of that holiday feeling back.

A How To.....

Here's my solution to minimising that feeling you get a few days back after a

You know the flat feeling ...that strong tug of the routine and demands that leave you feeling like you have never been away?

While we were away we participated in the ancient art of postcard writing and using "snail mail"......

Each day we searched out a picture representation of the surroundings we were in......then over  one of the many coffee/hot chocolate stops.... we HAND WROTE a message to the kids......because after all it was supposed to be a fun surprise for them.....

Then after purchasing the stamp....lick and stick....we had to search for a mailbox........

Now we knew that we would probably beat most, if not all of the postcards home but we would enjoy the thrill the kids would get each day they arrived.....well that was the plan....

And yes they did find it fun to collect postcards out of the letterbox for five days.....
BUT

The real bonus has been for us to have moments of reliving that days adventure...the sights, sounds and smells of being there....right when we were starting to feel a little blue.....

So there is my tip on how to make the holiday last, just that little bit longer, until get you over the post holiday blues.........

Things I am Loving

This week I am Loving....

....Treats that just begged to be brought home on our stopover from our holiday ( well kids begged we bring them home)

.....The newness of being back together as a family after being away on holidays.

...the little guy sporting a new scarf....I can see some conflicts happening on that couch before the season is out.

.....The weather has been very ordinary since returning from our holiday...lucky the beauty of rainbows are there to sweeten the deal.

...Free hot chocolates and the wonder of an automatic machine for the little guy...we were waiting for a tyre replacement....great news we didn't need it replaced after all.

...great kids movies that don't send parents to sleep...worth going to see
"Monsters University" just to see the new Pixar short film......

A few moments where these two have worked together peacefully. The end of the school holidays have been tough as they adjust to being home after a full holiday with their 9 cousins.

Loving an awesome sister that continues to be a great support with our kids....Meg made soap with her while spending the afternoon this week.

So much to be loving.....nearing the end of school holidays and we have all had the best of times....apart for half of it but each of us taking memories away that will stay with us.

Latest Creations

Before I went off gallivanting with my sweet a couple of weeks ago....I didn't get to show off the last of my creations that came out of Jody's studio...I finished the last class the day before I left....

Anyways.....

Here is my little "black number".
It started out as a long to the floor lace over jacket thingy..We cut it short and attached the cotton lace edge from a vintage tablecloth around the edges...I then dunked it in black dye to bring the white lace up to near colour of the jacket.......

Next....I did something new this round of workshops...I drafted a pattern from a shift dress I already owned and liked the style of......

So with a new piece of fabric I made this little "orange number".....It is covered up by the "little perfect for the dress" jumper that was made and given to me.

and because I was so  excited to get away I haven't taken proper pics of the little "Blue number" made from the same pattern with fabric in my thrifted stash pile...The weather was so beautiful in NZ that I  wore it a couple of time with a jumper over the top.....

So I fail a little on the photo taking that really shows off my creations...but I am so very happy once again with the stash of garments that Jody so very cleverly helped me create .
A few busy tasks prevent me from joining the girls in the studio again right now but hopefully I am armed with enough motivation to keep going on my own.
