A little thank you sewing

One more week of the school term to go.....
One more week of playgroup fun.....

One more week and then I get to say thanks for all your hard work in making the best team ever...
So a little hand sewing has been in order.

A little gift for the volunteers that are so great at volunteering.....

I made it....Pie / Hotpot Carrier

It has been so long since I have even attempted to be creative.....
but a gift was needed for a friend and I knew exactly what it should be.....
So I dived into the stash, dusted off the sewing machine.....hunted for a tutorial and sent the husband off to the hardware store.

I have a casserole dish carrier that my mum made when I was first married...it is different to this one but I have used mine over and over again..delivering hot meals or even scones to friends or someone in need of a meal.....

I know my friend will use this to be equally as generous too.....

I think she really loved it.....but best of all...I made something...and stash busted at the same time.

My Creative Space

I made something!!!!

It has been so long since I have sat at my machine and made anything..(well except for the  100 pencil cases or library bags that is  )

I took an old pair of jeans that didn't fit right.......

+
a piece of fabric

+
a pair of scissors

=

I love it.....a new skirt that is perfect for the end of our very dreary Winter and will serve me well into Spring and Summer ...when they finally arrive.

Oh it feels good to have created something new to wear ....especially re-purposing something from my wardrobe.

Latest Creations

Before I went off gallivanting with my sweet a couple of weeks ago....I didn't get to show off the last of my creations that came out of Jody's studio...I finished the last class the day before I left....

Anyways.....

Here is my little "black number".
It started out as a long to the floor lace over jacket thingy..We cut it short and attached the cotton lace edge from a vintage tablecloth around the edges...I then dunked it in black dye to bring the white lace up to near colour of the jacket.......

Next....I did something new this round of workshops...I drafted a pattern from a shift dress I already owned and liked the style of......

So with a new piece of fabric I made this little "orange number".....It is covered up by the "little perfect for the dress" jumper that was made and given to me.

and because I was so  excited to get away I haven't taken proper pics of the little "Blue number" made from the same pattern with fabric in my thrifted stash pile...The weather was so beautiful in NZ that I  wore it a couple of time with a jumper over the top.....

So I fail a little on the photo taking that really shows off my creations...but I am so very happy once again with the stash of garments that Jody so very cleverly helped me create .
A few busy tasks prevent me from joining the girls in the studio again right now but hopefully I am armed with enough motivation to keep going on my own.

My New Satchel

Now tell me I am not alone....

When you are on a tight time schedule...a list a mile long...and you need just the right bag for an all important holiday...shopped everywhere for one...with no luck....

Solution....sew one!!!

C'mon tell me you would do the same????

Well I am so happy with my new satchel.....

The brief to myself was......Black, big enough to carry all I will need on a plane trip, long enough shoulder strap....and unique in style......

For the front panel I up-cycled a t-shirt that no longer fit but had a really cool motif ...

I added my own touch...just because I could....

I am so pleased with it...now to fill it with all important travel necessities ...not forgetting the plane tickets.

So glad I set about and made my own one off creation that will always remind me of this special trip we are taking.....

My REinventing Catch up

I have been very busy remiss in not showing what the lovely Jody has been assisting me with. I have spent 5 weeks in her studio whipping up some clever REinventions.....so here they are.....

My Purple Frock - REinvented from two pairs of "nappy pants" not sure what else you call them other than they make a much nicer frock to wear than pants....

Second....My tweed skirt....REinvented from two skirts neither of which fitted......

Third ....Jumper wrap and tie rose broach. Created from a lovely piece of woven fabric I had in my stash. The Tie rose was made last year in the studio using a man's tie.

Fourth...Khaki Tunic.....Reinvented using a designer skirt that was waaaaay to long for me.

(Thanks Jody for all the photos)

I have three more sessions to go . Hopefully I will finish two half completed projects and maybe squeeze another one in to finish up with.

I love these classes and the fact that I have created some great garments that can be worn over and over...and all made from simple unused pieces is the best.

Come Back Creative Mojo...

I am so desperately hoping that some of my past creative mojo will return by the morning.....

I am off to play in Jody's studio for the next 8 Fridays and I feel so unprepared.....

the great thing is that I know that Jody will be brimming with ideas and together I am looking forward to creating a new winter wardbrobe.

So stay tuned and ready for the flood of creations that will appear here....

....eeek that means some more selfies!!!!!

My Creative Space

I have called this " I have a new machine and this is the first project "skirt......

I used Jody's Splice skirt pattern but only using one layer.....

I also added the little bird ...just because i could.....

I wore it last weekend to a family function and one of my family remarked that I would fit right in with the "Black Caviar" family.....

Hmmm...fabric is from IKEA.

My Creative Space ....and a giveaway

You may remember when I was digging around in my glory box I came across these.....
So I thought seeing as I am trying to not be so much of a "keeper".... I would make something with a couple of the tea towels ......

They are beautiful unwashed linen tea towels...

the first featuring ...Australian Galahs

and just because,  it has a doily feature on the front......

The second was a beautiful print featuring a gorgeous Bouquet of flowers...again crisp new  linen (well at least 25 years old new)

also with a little doily feature....
They are both lined with pretty fabric from my stash...

So all round a great stash busting project...

which I am keen to share....

Seeing as I have just clicked over to 103 followers ( me thinks amazing for this little ol blog)

I thought I would give one away....

You can choose

Australian Galahs
or
Bouquet of flowers

Just say hi in the comments and let me know which one you would like and I will draw a random winner this time next week.  I will post anywhere.

My Creative Space

Having just finished my scrap busting swap I was on a roll with using some more of my scrap stash....oh and i have plenty.....

A  birthday present was required for my 3 year old niece....

So using this tutorial I made a Fabric I Spy book......

and a Bubble Skirt using this tutorial and pattern.....

To complete the gift I just added two little t-shirts that I embellished with more of the skirt fabric and a lace doily.....

She seemed to love the book and was so adorable in the skirt........so yay for scrap busting ideas and perfect 3 year old presents.

My Creative Space

Last week  i began sorting some scrap fabric ready for the swap .

This week I have managed to complete a bag made for the scraps from scraps....

I even attempted for the first time some styling on my machine......

I have a couple of more bits and pieces I would like to add for my swap buddy....then in to the post it goes.....
I haven't done to many swaps so I am a little nervous as to whether I have included the right things.
It is always nice to tick another project off the to do list....hmmmm what to tackle next....maybe some more scrap busting is in order.
