Lights Camera Dance

I spent the morning with my girl today capturing her on camera.

It is always beautiful to see her dance but it was fun today to be the roadie and cameraman...camera mum.

She has put a lot of work into get her audition tapes compiled for studies next year.....you never know it may just be the camera work  that gets her across the line. LOL

Shenaningans

The challenge was issued.......luckily to her dad and not to me!

He can go head to head with her on most physical things......but when it comes to stretches......she is far more flexible ....and she had too much  fun this afternoon with too much bravado from another excellent adventure day in dance.

Me....I am starting to feel the effects from all the fresh air walking we are doing in this city of Brisbane and was no way going to manage any kind of stretching.

Walk total today = 16.9kms

A little cultural day

Not wanting our daughter to have all the cultural limelight, we set off towards to culture/arts precinct of Brisbane. I had heard that the Gallery of Modern Art was a place worth visiting.
So by foot, by ferry, by foot we made the trek. It was a very interesting place and it was lovely to wander slowly throughout the displays. The added bonus was it was cool....a humid day today outside.
From there we headed by foot and ferry to the city for a few essential items on our list. Enjoying coffee stops along the way has also been fun....who knew there were so many different ways to make / drink coffee? Sadly it was after we had just had a coffee break that we discovered that in fact their is a "Bassett" coffee suppler around......on our "to have before we head home" list now. Funny I should say we......it is just a "he" thing! I don't drink coffee at all....so I am enjoying the variety in Hot Chocolate around.

Well it is hump day today and our dancer is having a great week....sore and pretty tired but filling up on all sorts of experiences and loving the variety of great teachers she is exposed too.

Walk total today = 16.5 kms + too many blisters from wearing the wrong shoes.

Walking and Dancing

This week is about new things......
Meg was given the opportunity to dance in a new environment this week.....it did mean that we have had to travel to the other side of the country which also means that her dear old mum and dad have a week to explore and seek out all things new too.

So today she went off all excited but nervous and we sent her off all excited minus the nerves because we knew she would do good and that the experience of this week will be awesome for her.
So what was left for us to do but some exploring of our own.... we set off on foot to see how far we could get....well we got a long way...I think we walked almost 15.5 Kms today, which is no mean feat for this not so totally fit member of the family.
It was such a beautiful day...temperature was perfect and the city of Brisbane turned on a treat for us.

Walk total  = 15.5 kms

The Little Red Dress

Meg has a dance performance night next week.....two more outfits were needed....
A little white dress and a little red dress.

Money is tight but we were hopeful

White is in....everywhere...an easy pick....we found one that she is happy to continue to wear after the night and it was ok priced....

The little red dress on the other hand

Red is not in....watermelon- Yes...red...no!...not anywhere!

We searched every shop available to us...to no avail

I was happy just to head home, Meg wanted to try an op shop. I love op shopping but I know that you can't just walk in and find exactly what you need without maybe traipsing around to them all.

I agreed we had time to pop into one op shop and take a chance.

In we walk and wouldn't you know it on the first mannequin.......

We checked the size....8

I suggested she go and try it on the see if it would fit....".of course it will fit" she said..."I prayed in the car park that there would be a little red dress that was just perfect!"

For a whole $6 we decided to take it.......
We get to the counter......half price purple ticket week...it cost us a whole $3!!!!

We had the biggest grins on our faces as we left the store....

Only to see this billboard at the end of the car park as we left......

Oh Yeah it was a good day .

The Big Stage

It is no secret for anyone that knows our girl...she loves to dance.....dance is what she wants to do......
and I am pretty sure dance IS WHAT SHE WILL DO

This year she was accepted into WA's flagship contemporary dance company CO3

It has been quite the commitment travelling to the city 2 nights a week and a whole day on the weekend...but what we thought was going to stretch us to breaking point has come and nearly gone and we have all survived.

She has thrived in this adventure and developed in many ways not just her dancing....with just one year left of school she is growing in huge confidence that will see her most probably fly the nest sooner than her mumma will be ready for.

This week she has had a taste of what life would be like as a big league dancer.

She has just completed 6 performances at our states premier theater. Being in the youth ensemble has given her the experience to dance on the biggest stage she has had the opportunity to and dance along side the adult company dancers....

Wow it has been a big week for us all......but we are so proud of her and can see that she is certainly determined to follow that dream.

Now to get her up for school tomorrow and complete her final week for the year!

In a spin...

This girl of ours has had us in a spin this last month......
There has been Year Formal celebrations...

Ballet concerts...

 Traditional Hungarian dancing...

Contemporary and Hip Hop.....

Pieces from "Chicago" for her Year Ten dance graduation...

There was an audition in there too.....she has been successful in the next part of her dream...an inclusion into a premier state dance company.....

So I guess if I thought this year was fast......We are so proud of her.....so passionate and committed to follow her dreams.

A new stage....a new set of beginnings for us as parents....oh my she was just two, dancing in her little tutu just yesterday.......sigh

Whatever is in store for her we are proud of her and will be cheering her on loudly. xxx

{End proud mummy post - thanks for indulging me}

The day I found myself in the bottle shop

I am as far away from a connoisseur of fine wines as you can get.....

I was the child in my family that screwed their nose up at even the smell of a glass of wine

The few sips I have ever had.....all taste the same...I have no palette for alcohol of any sort.....

Bottle shops leave me totally confused

So when Meg came home and said she needed a bottle of wine for ballet....what the??

" Don't worry mum I have a picture of the bottle I need"

So in we went...we must have totally looked like we didn't know what we were doing because the girl in the shop spotted us and asked if we were after the "dancing bottle"

She pointed it out and we purchased the cheap bottle of wine and headed home giggling....

She is rehearsing a Hungarian style dance where she will dance with a bottle on her head!!!!

Apparently the contents were less than ordinary and ended up down the sink......now hopefully she manages to perfect the art of dancing with a glass bottle on her head and we  won't have to head back to the bottle shop....

I'll keep you posted.

Meg's week....

I should probably be a little more discreet about this...not so loud and proud....not so exploiting of my children in this social media setting.......
but...what the heck...

I am so proud of this girl.....

She had the opportunity to dance in a contemporary solo competition tonight - 13 dancers (who did a pretty good job) but our girl

placed second.........

She is such a gem....tonight she danced so beautifully , so mature, so sensitively....I am always in awe of her love and passion.......
and the best bit......she is big enough to do her own hair, makeup and organise all her own kit...the only thing she can't do is drive herself to endless dance rehearsals....well not yet.

It is turning into a big week for her.....she begins her first part time job tomorrow. She also has one more dance to complete on Friday as part of a Hip Hop troupe......oh and we decided an impromptu repaint of her bedroom after 14 years!

Did I say how proud I am of her......she is determined, self motivated, passionate and just an all round great kid....

I have totally "jumped the gun" on the 52 weeks project for this week.

oooh a proud mummy moment....

Couldn't contain my "proudness" so just had to share......

Meg had her final dance school concert tonight ....

It was a full dance card for her performing 7 routines both in Hip Hop and contemporary....

She also performed her first ever contemporary dance solo which she totally choreographed and costume designed herself......

I found myself holding my breath I was so nervous for her.....

I needn't have worried ..she received high accolades from a dancer in the profession....

SHE WON THE SOLO COMPETITION!!!!
(and took off her hip-hop class award)

She loves her dance and we couldn't have been more proud of her maturity and beauty in the way she dances...

OK sorry proud mummy moment over....this was for her to remember  and smile about....in time to come.

Shiver...

A few weeks back Meg was dancing with her school as part of a Health Department initiative for youth.....

while there, she and some of the other girls in her group were approached  and offered an opportunity to dance with a Youth dance /theater company.

A great opportunity she took, which has seen her busy all week long....

rehearsals for hours each day this week culminating in a dance piece that was the curtain raiser for

A week  of being stretched and gaining experience with some professional dancers and choreographers  that has only fed her love of dancing....

Luckily for me there were no eyelashes to fiddle with.....
