Book or Movie???

Are you a book reader or movie watcher?

Do you see the movie first then read the book?

maybe you read the book and forgo the movie version

When this book came out in 2004 I "gobbled it up"...

it was given to me at a very emotional and painful time in life.....

I struggled to read the book without shedding a bucket load of tears and having many "ponderful" moments.....
It began the journey of reading what is now my favourite author......

Then the movie came out in 2008. I wasn't interested in seeing the movie...I was so affected by the book I thought the movie would spoil the act of reading such a story......

Last night I had the opportunity of catching the movie on TV....

I watched it

 Sad movie, good watch

But no where as good as the book...
if fact I am disappointed now that I watched it...
it was so different to the book story line...
characters just weren't as passionate as those in the book.....

I am definitely a book girl  and those really good reads will stay just that for me next time.

How about you?

The Lorax

Fraser and I went and saw
The Lorax

It is one of the best kids movies I have seen in a long time.
When it finished I just wanted it to start all over again.

Great animations......great characters and even greater themes running through it.

Such a timely "green" theme, a "be the one to make a change" theme and  a " we need to take care of all that we have been given" theme.

So many quotes throughout the movie that I just couldn't get them all down  quick enough.....

This is my favourite.......

" Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not-"

Venturing out

Well today despite the searing heat we ventured out from the sanctuary of home.....

A haircut for the little guy,
Took in a movie altogether ....

A little babysitting gig of nieces and nephew so my sis could go out for an anniversary lunch,

Some "secret shopping" done by my family,

but once home I felt drawn back into my tidy space and put together a couple of baby boy gifts for a work colleague..

I am loving the slow rhythm of these days.....I don't think I would ever tire of the slower pace and simple creating that I keep being drawn back into.

Red Dog {Blogtoberfest 14}

Last week on our little getaway we took the kids to the movies......

It is increasingly trickier to find a movie that we all are going to enjoy without too much of a compromise for any of us.
I don't usually nominate movies to see but had an interest in seeing "Red Dog". It was not every one's choice but  I had heard the reviews and thought it may be a good safe, but interesting see.....
Now being a Western Australian born and bred girl growing up in the 70's I loved the story line that was set in our states north West.
I loved the fashion or lack of it ....I loved the Aussie vernacular....and I loved the story line knowing that it was based on a true story.
Warning....Very Sad!

The kids thought it was OK {seeing one really wanted to see Monte Carlo and the other
A few spots that probably went over their heads but overall a  neat story.
A few weeks earlier we had seen Hatchi on DVD a similar story line set in another country...equally as sad.

We usually catch movies on DVD much more economical way to see a movie as a family.
Seen any good movies lately?

We Liked

Thanks to Nuffnang and some free tickets they gave us, we took the kids to see Cars 2 on Monday night.
We did  break all of our own rules and went out on a school night but the excitement level and nag factor from our 6 year old got through to us.

It was a great movie with something for all of us....quite a different story line than the first. This one takes you around the world following the World Grand Prix.  There is a lot of James Bond touches to the plot also.
As usual with Disney/ Pixar productions they also had a great sound track.

I think it will be a definite DVD purchase when released.

Cars 2 The Movie

Due to the makeup of our family...a 12year old and a 6 year old it is really difficult to go to the movies as a family....finding something that suits everyone and is suitable for all.

The Cars movie is one of those movies that was a winner for the littlest through to the biggest person in our family...we have it on DVD and I think it is worn through.
So to have the Cars 2 Movie now about to be out is exciting. A movie that we will all be able to go and see and all enjoy most importantly..
Thanks Disney /Pixar for another great family watch that we won't mind seeing over and over.
Check out this trailer......

Drive In

One thing we promised ourselves and the kids we would do while on holiday was to go the Drive In theatre......

It was such a neat thing to do and the kids were fascinated by the whole concept...
Remember when you used to hook up these to your window for the sound?

Well now you just tune in your radio....
still glad we did it for who knows how long they will be around.

Movie going

As a last minute plan and some willing grandparents on hand ,last night we headed off to the
Gold Lounge at Ace Cinemas and saw "Inception" starring Leonardo DeCaprio....
I don't usually (in fact never) watch Thriller SciFi's but thought Derek would like it . I really enjoyed it ....although it did leave my head whirring at the end trying to process all the concepts.

and hey it will be hard to see another movie in a normal cinema again after the Gold Lounge Experience.
