Pie face fun with friends

What else do you do on a day where you have 3 extras and a little sunshine???

Play a crazy game involving whipped cream and a trigger that is very random.......

and when every one has had their fill of cream in their face,up their nose and in their hair.....

Make banana splits for everyone......

and yes I did  have a turn...but managed to avoid the cream going off on my turn!!

Nearly gone

With just 50 school days left ever for our teen and two terms left at primary school for our other child, this little moment in time will soon be long gone.....

A moment where wet shoes left one without footwear...the other coming to the rescue.

When they start school these days just sem so long away...

Well they are here!!

Cupcakes and soccer and being brave

We are in a season as a family where I feel that for each of us we have our own biggish things going on......

So our boy has...
all that comes with finishing primary school and making decisions about high school for next year......

Soccer is happening and he has had the opportunity to try out for a regional team heading towards "county week " in October.

A little procedure to remove something from his  tongue also has been on our agenda for a while. Seeing him overcome some perceived fears was awesome.

Random collection of happenings that are significant for him.....and because he isnt flying solo through all of these things it adds to the colours of our week. I know in the very near future I will look back and miss all these things that seem to take up so much planning, running around and mum involvement.

I quietly was very proud of my contribution to the cupcake stall raising funds for the soccer club......just another thing to add to the mummy resume along with taxi driver, nurse, hug provider, loudest supporter on the boundary line, braving the freezing evening training times,"application form writing encourager"......and all supposed to be done with a smile!

A Weekend for the fit.....

This past weekend was all about the sporty types in our family { Sadly I dont get to be at dance class otherwise I could add Meg in here too}

It was the opening game for the soccer season.....a cool early morning was perfect for a team of 10/11 year olds raring to go.

We headed straight down the highway south after the game to prepare for the 1/2 ironman to be held on Sunday morning.

Again a very grey day that provided perfect race conditions for both athletes and spectators.  After overcoming a last minute dash to the transition setup, our ironman was off and swimming......then cycling.....then running.

This is number 13 for him and you would think we would have it all down pat...the watching and supporting thing! For some reason he doesn't recall spotting us at all  and we lost him on the run....
Word got to us that he had problems with his hip and knowing that he was a little undertrained going in, jumped to the conclusion that his race must have been over .
I waited.....then decided he would make contact when he could. We cheered his brother over the line and just waited.....

But somehow we missed him out there and he successfully ran across the finish line thinking that we must have had dramas that kept us from the sidelines!!!!

Anyways never a dull moment.....all finished well and we are super proud of him once more.....
Even more so that he was able to pull up for work the next morning like a trooper!

So I am adding to my thankful list....

* The soccer season kicking off
* Perfect race conditions
* A weekend to hang with my sister as we cheer from the sidelines
* No rain despite it being very close
* The sun appearing  as the day progressed

Our week on the farm

The school holidays ended today...schools in tomorrow for another ten weeks....

Fraser and I headed to the farm with friends for our last week of the holidays....

There we discovered...

Peace and quiet, all bar the deep mooing of the bull.....

The fun of hanging out with a friend....

The intricacies of being on a farm during calving season....

How nice it was having the opportunity to have hands on with the locals..

Collectible roadside finds that stretch the imagination....

The most friendly and welcoming of farm folk....

That technology still had a little place out in the fresh country air...

The beauty of uninterrupted sunset watching....

The tricks employed to join an orphaned baby with a baby less mumma....

That cows have the biggest eyes to stare you down......

The most spectacular views only found in the big open spaces of the country...

Quirky little gems in the middle of the  town ....

Being up close and personal and discovering that it was really fun....

Taking time to discover even the smallest beauty..

Exploring hidden gems with loads of history...

A little kid fun in a neighboring bigger town thrown in for good measure .....

It was such a  great week spent with great friends.......it has set us up for heading back to school.....
The weather has turned a bit bleak  out the doors we must all head tomorrow...

Here's to a happy Term Two.

The boy milestone

This week we hit a milestone in our family.

It was transition day for high school for our boy .

He was excited....I was not...

He didn't really know what lie ahead...I did

I am struggling to come to a heart place where I can see my self sending off my baby....to the jungle...

Well, we still have the rest of this year but this day was all about forcing me and enticing him in the next year and all that lies ahead.

My consolation was that his big sister was able to walk through the gates with him....give him a hello as they passed during the day , then walk the walk home with him.

He was a little disillusioned by the"big kids" around the school who seemed to be acting like "idiots"....oh such a harsh reality of joining older kids and going right back to being the little kids.

I was proud of him though. We encouraged him to apply for one of the specialist programmes on offer and as we "work-shopped" the application form he pushed through the overwhelming task of it all.

My heart is sad though that as siblings they won't be high school walking, talking buddies....but I am trusting that he can have just as smooth an experience as his sister in the next 6 years.

Me, I will be working on putting on my big girl pants and coming to grips with the passage of another chunk of time and the realizations that it brings....I will no longer be the mum of a primary school child.....one child at school.....

But hey I get ahead of myself....lets just go back to being ready for the Monday morning that is on our doorstep tomorrow. x

Silly Mess

There is only one occasion when it is perfectly OK to cover someone in toxic smelling silly string and in the process cover the whole kitchen too..........

Happy 11th Birthday to our boy.

We are all shaking our heads at where the last 11 years have gone.....

May there be much more silliness to come. xxx

These two nutters set off today....both for the first of thier lasts

Last year of high school and last year of primary school

....and neither of them needed me today!

Oh well...they know where to find me if they do..

Hope your first days of school are smooth sailing and you get better photos of the occasion than I did!

Celebrate success

On different sides of the country today...we celebrate with our kids

One completed a successful week of new experiences in dance

and the other successfully passed his swimming level  after two weeks of beach lessons.

Tomorrow we will all be back doing life together.
