My Creative Space

Not all that much to see....very little time this week to exercise anything much creative.....

That being said....

A little book mark making has been started.....

I wanted to practise a little more of my sewing scribbling....

Besides....My motto has always been that every good book deserves it own bookmark to travel with it.....

Hopefully being Friday tomorrow and a long weekend there will be some time to break out much more fascinating creative moves.

Treasure Chest Finds No.4

Needing to get a move on with re packing my Glory Box so that it is not taking up much needed room in the house.....(ie it needs to go back into the wardrobe out of the way) has made me look at some of the contents with new eyes.

Much of what is in there I have had for many years....long before it was "trendy" to have and  certainly any thoughts of  re purposing any of it.  Now all these many years down the track I have a much keener interest in the items and see that many of them have so many new lives to live.

So this week I am showing you a stack of linen that I have stored away and with my new eyes I am thinking that it all doesn't need to go back in the box and stay in a pristine, mothball smelling state.

Even the lovely damask tablecloths and matching napkins still in their original boxes need to come out and see the light of the day....

maybe they just need to go on my table....or maybe they are destined for something more grand.

All I know is that I think both my mum and grandmothers would be pleased if I was using them and showing them off in all their glory in stead of trying to preserve them in a chest at the back of my wardrobe.

I think the same goes for the supper cloths and crocheted doilies and table runners.

You can see all my other Treasure Chest finds here.

...a HUGE  bag to head to the op shop as a result of the day home by myself.

.....time to finish a reinventing task that I had started for a friend.

.....pumpkins scones made this week to share.

.... a cute tutorial for Easter baskets found here

My Creative Space

Last week  i began sorting some scrap fabric ready for the swap .

This week I have managed to complete a bag made for the scraps from scraps....

I even attempted for the first time some styling on my machine......

I have a couple of more bits and pieces I would like to add for my swap buddy....then in to the post it goes.....
I haven't done to many swaps so I am a little nervous as to whether I have included the right things.
It is always nice to tick another project off the to do list....hmmmm what to tackle next....maybe some more scrap busting is in order.

Dinner Tonight

Yay for new a new cook book to inspire and motivate a "timid cook" in the family.

You can't get much more simple than 4 ingredients in giving encouragement to make a meal for the family and have success.

It was delicious and already the next week's meal is being planned and though about.

...and another bonus other than making one 14 year old feel like she achieved....we both had a night off from cooking....

Treasure Chest Find No.3

If you have a clown phobia, you best not read on.....

I have been sharing the contents of my newly opened hope chest that has been in storage for many years...

Today I bring you this very old and very "odd" clown.
He serves...or served as a Pj's holder. His legs are hollow and this is where you stashed your bed clothes when not in use..
I remember having him as a small child sometimes on my bed , sometimes hanging on my door and then stuffed kindly into my hope chest....given to me by my grandmother.

I know what you're thinking why only ONE EAR!  I don't know....he has always had one!
He is quite fragile now and the fabric is very delicate, faded and slightly vintage marked...

The embroidery on his face is so beautifully and cleverly done and I like that he has a smile. The felt hands and feet are in great condition seeing as usually felt is the first to be nibbled on by silverfish if there are any around.

anyways....
unlike my previous weeks discoveries here and here I don't think this little guy will be hanging on our bedroom door any time soon......

But thought he was worth the share.

Latest Read

If you haven't discovered Stephanie Nielson and her blog NieNie  Dialogues...head there now....

She has the most inspiring story of surviving against all odds....a touching , raw and totally inspiring story.....

From her blog this week......

"But even with all that others were willing to offer me, I realized along the way that ultimately nothing they did could make me happy.  I felt comforted by family and my faith, but peace was different from happiness.  At first I thought stubbornly that the only thing that would make me happy was for my life to look like it did before the accident.  But no one could give that to me, and no one else could make me happy. Happiness was my choice, and though it is hard won, I am the only person who can stand in the way of it."
-taken from my memoir, Heaven is Here.

This is the second book this year that I have read with the message about " Happiness being in our own hands"........

Certainly makes me think about choices I make on a daily basis and think about the way I view a situation.

There have been many times in the last eight years that I have had to make a choice to choose happiness....when everything in me wanted to do the opposite....... I think it has made  for the best way forward ...for myself and those around me.

My Creative Space

After a quick stop at the op shop on Monday I came out with three bargain $2 madness Monday pieces....
I loved the coral/pink Linen shift dress and it fitted me really well.....so off home I went......
When I tried it on again I realised that the fullness of the dress wasn't that flattering - Ok if you are super trim.

So with the eagerness to wear it Wednesday I set about, 1 hour before I was to head out the door....
Nothing like some early morning sewing to start the day.....

I put into practise some skills learnt with Jody last year.....

after a little shirring I felt the back fullness was taken care of but the front still needed to lose it's fullness......

so what else to do but run to tucks straight down the front.....no real science other than a couple of pins in front of the mirror...
Back to the sewing machine (in my underwear- much to my children's amazement)

and TA DA I had a really lovely linen dress that felt light and cool ready to wear out the door on a 40 degree day.....
Now i need to turn my attention to my scraps for the scraps swap I have signed up for with
