Living fully

Don't ask what the world needs.
Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs
is people who have come alive.
- HOWARD THURMAN

Some sighs of relief today as the redundancy wand waved over and passed us today...not so for many others ..nothing like a big word to keep you on your toes.

A couple of busy days ahead as I get to work on a couple of custom orders..as well as trying to get my Granny Rug finished.

Visitors and Visiting

Finally we had these guys come and feast at our verandah...we have many of the bush pigeons but were hoping we would see a variety and this morning over breakfast we watched these visitors.
A morning at church then off to share lunch with friends on there beautiful piece of paradise

Feeling quite ready for the week to begin tomorrow after cramming so much fun into our weekend.

Lazy Saturday???

Today was not what I would call a lazy Saturday...

  • Up with the birds in 2 degrees for our little bit of exercise.
  • Fraser off to a party with the super-cape made for the birthday boy.
  • Bron off to a scrapbooking day with friends
  • Meg picked up after an all night movie night at church
  • Fraser picked up from the party
  • Meg dropped off at Hip Hop Class
  • Bron picked up from scrapbooking day
  • Meg picked up from dance class

  • Potato and Leek soup made for dinner
  • Time to work on Kid's church lesson for the morning
  • Pavlova made and in the oven for a luncheon with friends tomorrow

  • Maybe a few moments to work on my granny blanket before heading to bed ready to tackle the Sunday madness.
Thanks to my honey for doing the lions share of all the craziness today while I wiled away the hours with friends and photos.

Carried Away..

I have been a little carried away with my granny squares ...I have been really loving the simplicity and rhythm of the crocheting. I thought last night I should count how many I have as Derek has often asked me what exactly was I going to do with them all.
I counted up 108 squares!!!
So I headed to here and worked out how to start joining them up...it is quite addictive as it grows really quickly into a very quirky blanket!

One Month to live Campaign week 1-part 1/4

What would you do if you had One Month Left to Live?

This a programme we are committing to for the next thirty days...One Month To Live.
It will require us to read through the book in thirty days, meet with our small group and get great teaching from our Pastor each Sunday at The Baldivis Church...
If you would like to join us you can watch along and be encouraged to also ponder the question.

Too Funny...

What happens when you don't listen to ya mumma!!!

After yesterdays cleverness on his bike......this was the result of riding on the deck 10 minutes before we were to leave for school...."but mum I didn't get my sore head wet!!!!"- he was drenched from his toes to his shoulders.
After I took the photos I gave him a telling off for not doing as he was told then proceeded to laugh and laugh( I admit I even sent photos to Derek and shared them with friends throughout the day)
After having two daughters this boy thing is certainly proving to be an interesting and never dull ride.

Just like that!

Fraser asked Derek out of the blue to take off the trainer wheels on his bike......
and just like that he took off and didn't look back....he could ride perfectly....

After a few laps of the front yard, a couple of crashes into our parked car and a few near misses of the large tree in the centre of the lawn...he was able to self start and brake stop quite well.

(just in case you were wondering what the bandaged eye was....he collided on Saturday with the rocking chair and after a trip to the ER he now has a glued wound...what a week he has had!)

We were all pleasantly surprised at how easy the whole process was.....
just like that!

Mum's Day

My Day began with a lovely breakfast (at the table as per my request- so much easier to enjoy than under my chin in bed!)
Off to church together then home to a pre-prepared lunch.

These guys are why I get to celebrate Mother's Day...
and this beautiful lady who I call mum...the bestest Mum-in-law in the west!

(check out the bee on my neck that shortly after this photo was taken bit me!!!!)

Some lovely homemade gifts that they so diligently kept hidden from me....

2 new pairs of winter jammies....
and a bike to take me places .....

Overall a lovely day spent with the most important people in my life.

Strange Happenings

Some strange things have happened in our neighbourhood this week....starting with the unexpected leaping out of brick letterboxes onto the pavement in front of Fraser. We were walking home from school and "wham"...poor little guy ,lucky dad was with us to carry the injured home!
(maybe the theory of watching where you are going is a good one to heed)
Today we have had a thick blanket of smoke filling the air all day as a result of some controlled burning in the south of the state. Apart from a very uncomfortable breathing situation it created a very still and eerie mood that had everyone slightly on edge....we just moved our playgroup activities inside for the morning as it didn't feel quite that healthy breathing in the not so fresh air today.

Life

Today I attended a funeral service for my Great Aunty. I went with my sister and my dad...My Great Aunty was my mum's aunty and as it is that mum is not here to go we went to represent her and the family.
It was held on a family horse stud farm and was the most perfect of Autumn days .

It was a lovely opportunity to make some lost connections with my mum's older generation family and to hear of the fond memories of her Aunty...there is something about funerals that are very emotional even if the link is distant. Hearing family members share their thoughts and feelings for another member of their family in this case a mother and grandmother brings back all the feelings of loss for my own mother...the tears I found myself shedding were in part for this dear old Aunt but much much more for the words and sentiments that could have easily been my own thoughts and words for my mum.
I follow the blog of Stephanie Nielson a woman with a miraculous God story...watch this following clip that she has made and be inspired - if you are a mother be reminded of the enormity of the precious gift that is our life that we take so much for granted.

(be inspired and challenged by Stephanie's story but know that I personally am not endorsing her pathway to a relationship with God)

A great plan...

Sometimes the perfect situation comes along to do something out of the expected for someone...
Yesterday was one of those times for Derek to gift a friend...

...the best part of the giving process is the surprised looks and then the fun of exploring the gift.

Monday

(The Old Quinudulup Bridge)
After such a fun weekend always comes the crash of a Monday....loads of washing, unpacking and sorting and all this combined with the normal Monday duties that are always waiting .
But the nice thing about today was also that Derek had the day off so a coffee at the Dome was in order along with running some errands together....which also meant that some of those above mentioned tasks didn't actually get done! oops.
