The Place to be on Sunday

Teddy Leggo came with us to the place we love to be at on Sunday's....

While walking around the property today I noticed how much Geraldton Wax we have growing wild . These are the very early signs of the wildflower season here. These beautiful flowers have a very strong scent and are sort after in floral arrangements. Come September we have the official start of our very unique wildflower season here in Western Australia.

No Much Action Today

This is the kind of day we had today.....so we didn't venture far from the warmth of inside.

Some watching of movies....

Some computer playing...

And of course some superhero fun to be had!

Teddy Leggo was lucky to dine with "Tiddy" who I must say has had a very quiet weekend so far with the visitor around.

Being cooped up inside makes everyone want to eat more, so I made this super quick recipe that was given to me by a kindy mum.
Choc Chip Slice

125g butter
1cup soft brown sugar
1 egg beaten
1 cup choc chips or for a variation 1 cup of sultanas
1 1/2 cup of self raising flour

Preheat oven to 190 c
Grease 20cm x 30cm Tin
Melt butter in saucepan
Add sugar and stir until dissolved
Remove from heat and cool for a few minutes
Mix in egg, choc chips/sultanas
and flour
Mix well
Press into prepare tin
Bake for 20 mins or until golden brown
Cool before cutting into squares or bars

Done in about 30 mins start to finish ( even Derek said to post this because it was so delicious!)

Introducing....

Let me introduce you to ....Teddy Lego the kindy bear that goes on adventures each weekend with a child in Fraser's kindy class.
This weekend it is our turn to have teddy Lego stay and record all his fun with us. Unfortunately we have a quiet weekend planned and it is very wet and windy so I was looking forward to staying put...oh well I am sure we will find something interesting to write about and also take some fun photos.
Fraser's teacher did mention that Teddy could do with some new clothes, how could I not make a superhero cape and mask? Fraser was very pleased when he woke from his nap to find "Super Teddy Lego " waiting for him.

A Special Visitor

Fraser is very excited to have a special visitor come and stay at our house for the next 4 days...but unfortunately something has gone a miss with my camera and I am unable to make the formal introductions...it will have to wait until tomorrow....
Instead let me show you the latest crop from our lemon tree....

Fraser and daddy returned inside with the haul.This tree of our has a never ending supply of fruit, I can see some lemon meringue pie coming up this weekend.

Sibling Fun

Today was MOPS morning and what fun we had today. Merran ( my next sister down from me) was leading a discussion on Birth Order using this book by Kevin Leman. It is such an interesting topic to delve into especially if you are lucky enough to have both of your siblings present. With the wonder of Skype we were able to "skype" in our younger sister, who lives on the other side of the country and have her give some insight on how birth order has and still does play a part in our family. Much discussion followed the talk and I am sure will continue into the homes of all the moms there today.

On a lighter note we had the opportunity of making these funky bottle top pins or magnets whichever you chose. So easy and quick requiring again only a few materials.
Hot glue gun, patterned paper, bottle tops and any other stickers on photo small enough to stick in the centre. We had the option to glue on the back a magnet or a drawing pin .

Tuesday's Busyness

It's Tuesday again which for me means running playgroup. I really love getting together with the families that come along. I am really loving being able to get to know them and what is going on behind the scenes, which for some of them is a lot and sometimes they just feel better because they told someone.
I also get enjoyment out of preparing the activities the kids participate in...some with mum's help, others just get stuck in all by themselves as was the case with Logan today.
I got this idea from here and only needed three basic materials to complete..my kind of craft.

This afternoon my sister picked up the kids from school for me and dropped them at the office...which was a treat for both them and Grandad who also works at the office. It was fun to see them all there gathered around his desk looking at no doubt photos of themselves! Oh and grabbing a lolly from the special tin!

It was then home to cook some
Bacon,leek and potato soup for dinner....

4 rashers rindless bacon,diced
2 tblspn of oil
1 leek, trimmed,halved,thinly sliced
750g potatoes, peeled,chopped
1lt Chicken stock
1/4 cup cream
1/4 cup chopped chives
Cook bacon in a large saucepan over medium-heat for 5 mins or until crisp. Remove to plate.
Add oil and leek to saucepan. Cook,stirring, for 3 mins or until soft. Add potatoes. Toss to coat in leek mixture,
Add stock to saucepan. Cover. Bring to the boil. reduce heat to medium-low. simmer, partially covered, for 20 mins or until potatoes are tender. Blend, in batches to desired consistency. return to saucepan. Add cream and 3/4 of the bacon. stir over low heat until heated through. Season with salt and pepper. sprinkle with remaining bacon.

Cute and Handsome

The boys in our house were well overdue for haircuts, so off to the barbers we went. It was so neat to see them side by side having "the Mohawk" ( I left my camera at home for that ) so we snapped away when we got home. Fraser was quite happy to have the coloured wax put in ,Derek was not so keen. A handsome pair they make!

Fraser came straight home and drew a picture of himself with the red Mohawk!

Search Over

I have been looking for ways to be able to display some of the things I have been busy working on. I have been looking in stores and at the market yesterday for ideas of how best to do it. What I did find was a lot of these "wire busts", but where to find one?

Well I did find one yesterday and so snatched it up with the blessing of my dear husband who is very gracious about another thing in the house. I am so pleased with it I just need to now practice the photo shoot side of things.

From The Market To the Bonfire

We went to the Fremantle Markets this morning and picked up Derek there after his early morning group ride. We picked up some very yummy things for morning tea and bought some large sweet strawberries to take home for lunch.

This afternoon these lovely ladies sewed their hearts out to finish 80 library bags for the shoe boxes I mentioned yesterday...well done girls that is what I call team effort.

Then off to a bonfire lighting at some friends house who save it all up for the once a year burning. The kids had a blast poking the fire and roasting marshmallows till they felt ill.

I spent time this afternoon getting a head start on a project for tomorrow. As a church we participate in Operation Christmas Child and our goal is to pack 100 shoe boxes.
Tomorrow a group of lovely ladies are gathering to start sewing up 100 simple drawstring bags that will go inside the shoe boxes along with a heap of other goodies which I will show later.
I got started on a few so that the production line tomorrow will be able to start smoothly.I am sure there will be much sewing, much chatter and much cake consumed. iI will let you know how we get on.

This is the sunset we had over the salt lakes not far from us...it was spectacular.

Afternoon Tea Anyone?

Fraser was very keen to fix some afternoon tea all by himself...who was I to argue ? I'm just not sure that anyone else was very keen to share with him after the 1/2 jar of chocolate spread that went on the crackers. Maybe that was his plan and he did enjoy them all by himself. I am not that bad a mummy letting him eat that much choc spread, he did after all put into practice some valuable fine motor skills!

Day with Grandad

These two four year old cousins spent the day with their Grandad. What was on the agenda for the day? Milkshakes and giant cookies at "Maica Blue" (Jamaica Blue) and then time to play at the lizard park.....what more could they hope for on a beautiful sunny day without mums around.
