My Creative Space- 20 cent REinvention

On Monday I visited a new to me op shop that I have had on my "to stop in on " list for a while....... 

It was a refreshingly traditional op shop......so so much stuff and all clothes were $2!!!

Unless you filled a bag from the trolleys out the front and then you only paid $1!!!

So I picked up a couple of FULL PRICED items and then had a dig in the trolleys.....

Only came up with one item so took my goods to the counter.....


After only being charged 20 c for my trolley item I knew I had to make good on it once I hit home......

So I took my newly acquired striped round neck,three quarter sleeved knit and combined it with the trim off a cotton button through shirt from my stash.......... 

and now I have one very wearable cardi that I just love and took me less than an hour to do.....

Not a bad 20 cents spent I say!

Things I am Loving....

I wholeheartedly believe that no matter what is happening in your life, there is always something you can be thankful for..no matter how simple it is.

Today

To be very honest...

Today

I could have stayed in bed....

BUT

  

I had a little guy to hang out with me...

(well he was supposedly sick so was banished to his bed for the first part)

I sewed and he drew......

some days are just like that.....

My Creative Space

Can't say too much.....working on a birthday gift for my niece....

 one who loved to dress up and be dramatic....

Just need a few more quiet hours to execute it's finish....

then I will be back to share .

A new read.....

My youngest sister was showing me last week a book she was gifted.....
It looked like a really lovely read....

I tracked down the blog written by the author and have enjoyed reading through some of the archives.....
Today I had the opportunity of using a gift voucher to purchase my own copy of

Down to Earth.....

while waiting for our car to be serviced today, I was able to pour through the first third of the book.....

it covers all sorts of areas of living simply..... 

...not necessarily frugal either..... 

I think so many of us are truly looking for more and more ways to be self sustaining in little ways....
some manage to do it in bigger ways.... 

the greatest thing about this book is the author is Australian and this is just a record of how they do simple and live the life that they are in control of..... 

 

From what I have poured over today I would highly recommend this being on your reading list...

Shoebox Love

Work commenced today on a project that I co-ordinate in my church each year.

We join with the Samaritans Purse organisation to fill shoe boxes overflowing with goodies for children in far flung countries at Christmas time.

Being the inventive type I am...my favourite part of the project is rallying the troops to help pull together a few handmade components to go in the box... 

So today work began as we snipped almost eighty no sew scarves.......

....and sewed Velcro on fifty potential pencil cases......

With four more scheduled crafting bees to go we should be able to make the deadline and finish in total......

100 no sew scarves

100 drawstring bags

Easy peasy me thinks. 

Restyling.....

Today along with my sister and a good friend we headed out on a day of trawling some op shops.......

In all we managed 5 with some lunch thrown in the middle and managed to be back to collect kids on  almost on time.

The mission for me was to find some gems that I could REinvent.....

Unfortunately those red boots were a touch too large....

I did however buy a pair of shoes and a couple of skirts that will undergo some transforming soon.

The things you can find when you have the time to "really trawl"....

I never cease to be amazed at the sheer amount of treasures that are sitting inside these stores......

Barbie anyone??????

 

In the second last shop we visited....I was excited to pick up this flyer on the counter.....

Now I am not becoming a fashion blog by any means....but my recent flirting with REinventing has seen me keenly become interested in what I can do with something
pre loved that may not necessarily be instantly obvious.

So I have been investigating some local blogs that are taking the "30 Day Restyle Challenge"

It's been a few weeks since my first splice skirt attempt......I love wearing it too......

I now have finished a second one......

This time I used three layers....

 I think I am going to love it as much as the first one I made.....
