This weekend......

A weekend of celebrating and food.....

High tea in honor of this special birthday for our big girl.....enjoyed at the most picturesque place in our city  .

Wondering what it would be  like to float away on something as large as what we saw in port.

Celebrating a decision made by Meg.

Early celebrations for the boy of our family...8 next week.

Although we were in for storms today...the beach is where we headed to eat cake....no storms prevailed thankfully.

So enough cakes eaten for the time being....well until next weekend anyways.

It's Monday tomorrow and I really could do with another couple of days to rest and relax!!!

Lots of babysitting gigs for mum and dad

Plenty of hugs from your little brother

Sharing the bathroom, makeup and the hair straightener  with your sister

Things I am Loving

This week.....

 Looking back on this week some of the things I am loving are.......

...A long weekend that allowed us to hang with friends on the extra day

...The gift of beautiful sweet smelling Frangipanis for the garden

...Simple yummy meals cooked.

...homegrown produce.

...that harvesting is full of surprises.

...back making bread.

...summer fruits being delivered to the door.

...and time spent today trying a new to me old way of producing ( will share soon)

...and of course it is now the weekend and time to spend together.

My Creative Space

Having just finished my scrap busting swap I was on a roll with using some more of my scrap stash....oh and i have plenty.....

A  birthday present was required for my 3 year old niece....  

So using this tutorial I made a Fabric I Spy book......

  

and a Bubble Skirt using this tutorial and pattern.....

 

 

To complete the gift I just added two little t-shirts that I embellished with more of the skirt fabric and a lace doily.....

 

She seemed to love the book and was so adorable in the skirt........so yay for scrap busting ideas and perfect 3 year old presents.

Dinner Tonight

This is the next installment in teaching our teen to cook.......

Love this recipe book to give the confidence she needs.....

and we love having the night off from cooking......  

Beef and Veggie Pies.....

She did really well under the pressure of getting home late and therefore cooking on a time restraint......next time maybe we will add some more veggie son the plate ...although it was agreed that there were plenty inside these very yummy little pies.

Slowly slowly building a repertoire of simple meals she can cook and have under her belt for the future. 

Treasure Chest Finds No.5

I come from a long line of very proficient knitters......even my two sisters have the knitting gene.....

Not so much me....I can knit and purl a scarf....or granny square  crochet....that is the extent..

So this week's show and tell from my glory box/hope chest is the one and only jumper that I have ever completed........

my mum encouraged me to knit it and was with me for every stitch dropped and knitted.....

 Looking at all the piling on the jumper I wore this lots.....It was before I was married....so at least 25 years ago.....strange shape and large but still ...I knitted it!!   

I am thinking it is time to give it up , find a new home for this beauty..... 

 Also found .....my poncho made in lovely pure wool...knitted by my mum when I was a tween maybe 11 ish...oh too many years ago to remember....

She was a fast and fancy knitter....could knit talk and watch TV at the same time.

Would have something started and finished in the blink of an eye....

This may be a sentimental keeper.....

AN UPDATE....

"Mum ? who's is this jumper......Can I have it?...I really like big and baggy????"

Sure Meg.....she laughed when I told her the story and asked whether I was ever that shape??

Hmmmm 

Looks like it is hanging around a little longer.

Cooking Apple Pie

Four and twenty blackbirds, baked in a pie

when the pie was opened, the birds began to sing

Wasn't that a dainty dish to set before the king?  

 

 

 

I would like to say that I spent the day making apple pie.......hmmm someone in our house did.....not me...

While I was off running a couple of errands my lovely husband set about making a pie....

using the Jamie Oliver pie recipe he filled the house with aroma of apples , sugar and pie .

Not a bad way to spend some of an extra day to our weekend.

Lamenting over the thought of calling in the arbourist to do some work.....

Harvesting the crop that has fallen on the ground.....

The weekend is not over as we have an extra day to look forward to tomorrow.....

That my swap parcel is off in the post today winging it to my secret partner

The random thoughts of a 7 year old.....".Mum there are actually five in our family....dad,mum,me ,Meg and Taylor......"   maybe it's the upcoming birthday celebrations in the next two weeks that have him thinking.......
