Growing up my worst nightmare was mum serving a casserole or stew for dinner!!!!
I just could not make that meat go down...or deal with the combination of all the ingredients....
Years later and cooking for a growing family and wanting to make the most of some cheaper cuts of meat....
I am making AND eating delicious Hearty Casseroles that all my family devour...
(mum would be so proud of me!!!!)
Tonight I found a recipe here for Dumplings.....
They were so simple and took no time at all....they were added in the last 10 mins of the casserole being finished......
Oh yum......excuse the messy pot....making a juicy meat and veg filled casserole is messy business.
Dumplings will definitely be featuring in this dish again.

Ha ha. You sound just like my hubby he really detested having a stew made by his mum. He is a little better these days..... I love a good casserole though, warm and hearty food and the dumplings are a big favourite here too. I hope everyone enjoyed your casserole tonight it looks rather yummy:) xx
ReplyDeleteMe too re the stew. It was the big carrot rings I hated most (I'm sure my Mum used horses carrots!) I was not allowed to leave the table until I'd eaten it all either. Ewwww. Stone cold cooked carrots! I love carrots now though, and I don't mind stew either. We don't eat stews are casseroles very often though because my husband went to boarding school where they were a staple and he hates them. Detest's might be a better word.
ReplyDeleteOh! It looks so very yummy! I have always loved casseroles from when I was a child. My gran would make some pretty wild ones but they always tasted great!
ReplyDeleteHey Bron, I love a meal in a pot and dumplings are a must with a nice stew/casserole. Can't beat it on a cold Winter's night.....
