Lego and Dinosaurs

When a friend was giving away a doona with dinosaurs on it I thought there must be something I can use that for.....Fraser loves his lego and the box was staring to overflow so instead of moving to a bigger tub, I had a thought to combine his dinosaur interest with the lego. ( they are learning about dinosaurs this term at pre primary)

I cut a large circle and serged the edges...threaded a cord made of the same fabric and viola we have a lego mat and storage bag in one!

It is worth the trying to keep all the lego in one place and easily cleaned up at the end.

Check out what lots of other clever people are doing here.

Ouch!

The inter-school netball carnival was tough today...what a soldier she played on despite the injuries....what a trooper.
She assures us she had fun even though they were beaten most of the day and "my fingers hurt like crazy"

Hooky...

I should be out at my small group tonight....but am not feeling all that great...so a little "hooky" was in order to feel sorry for myself.

Long Weekend

You've gotta love the extra day on a weekend....this is how we spent some of our extra day off....

We were so lucky to see so much wildlife up close and personal.

It's Mine

You know you have a bargain worth buying when there are others hoping it was theirs...sounds serious doesn't it but it 's not really.
I take Meg to her dance class each Saturday afternoon and then use that opportunity to off load the week's decluttering at my local Salvos store.....Every week I say to myself "don't go in...you don't need to take anything home...after all you came to drop off the excess...right?"
But most times I don't listen to myself and head on in the doors. Sometimes there is clearly nothing so off I go but today...I scored this crock pot among some other things (I will show later).
I had three ladies in the store try and take it from the counter while I was in the process of purchasing it...It is a great large, and heavy locally (Quinninup) made pot that will be perfect for the winter cooking that lays ahead.

Projects completed

My mission today was to get a couple of sewing projects completed...
I had a request from some long time friends to use their Mum/ Nan's supper cloth and turn it into 4 separate items.....
I agreed to do it but must admit it has taken me forever to bring myself to cut it up and be sure I knew what I needed to do with it. I have cut up many of my own pieces of vintage material but doing it with someone elses was more stressful than I thought.

I have completed one apron using one of the four hand embroidered motifs on the cloth. I have kept it simple because I didn't want to detract from the featured embroidery. All I hope now is that the receiver will be pleased with it .
I only have three more items to create when the rest of the family members decide what it is they would like to have created.

I also finished a super cape for a friend who will be posting it off to the UK...me thinks that is cool!

My Handbag

One thing I have a love of doing is making simple handbags...so I thought after reading this I would tip mine out and see what exactly was lurking in the bottom.

I don't change bags every time I head out the door so it is easy to accumulate "stuff" in the bottom. This results in a desperate wrestle for the phone that is ringing or the pen that I just know is in there.
I do have to confess the item that gives me the biggest problem is the tissues...even if I know that there are some in my bag already, I have this compulsive need to grab a couple more as I walk out the door.
( So I have a confession...I got rid of the million tissues from my bag before I took the photo)
Some of the must have items in my bag...
Diary
hand cream
purse
sunglasses
camera
pen and of course those tissues.
Oh I do have my phone although my dearest would argue that it is useless in the bottom of my bag never being answered!

Today at Playgroup

I haven't shown you any of my playgroup creations for a while....today was
F for Flowers day.
These turned out much prettier than I thought..simply a paper plate with the centre cut out and then an assortment of flower shapes glued on.
We used cup cake liners, press out flower shapes and foam flower stickers along with some paper cutouts.
Oh and of course there had to be the sprinkling of glitter.

....Wearing them seemed to be the choice of use for them.

Monday

Monday arrived and because it was the alternate Monday, Derek was off from work....which makes it a lovely day.....what were we to do but head off for a coffee to work out the game plan for the remainder of the day.

We visited the bike shop, the fencing place, the supermarket, the hardware store and managed to tie up some jobs we have been meaning to get to....one being for me to finish off the panel I made for our french door on our bedroom. It was a lovely remnant piece of fabric that I hemmed and hung to create the privacy that was needed.
I am pretty pleased with result.

Lov'in walk'in

We are almost halfway through the school year and having changed schools at the beginning of the year...this is what we are loving the most.

Walking to school.

We are just two streets away and it is very liberating to leave the car behind and walk, sometimes with other families or other times with no-one else in sight. It is a great time to chat and generally observe the things going on around us in the neighbourhood.

Weekends End

It was an exquisite day today....too good to waste and seeing as both our children had or made other good offers for the afternoon we headed home form church with the whole afternoon to ourselves.

What was one to do but head out to lunch and soak in some sun. It is certainly very nice to have some catch up time , some slow time, some time to enjoy the moment...especially as Monday is just around the corner.

Busy Beavers

At the usual rush hour it seemed unusually quiet around our parts.... this one was in his room intent on doing some colouring in...

and this one was in her room working away very intently on some bracelets.
who was I to complain especially as I was way behind on the nightly schedule.
Just another one of those tiny glimpses into how big they both really are becoming....no babies around these parts anymore.

Remember the video?

I made a purchase today that I am very excited about...for anyone who knows me they know that technology isn't something that normally excites me....
This however will hopefully allow us to save all our old video footage and place it onto DVD's.

This little gadget is all that is needed to do the job.... we began tonight to test it out and popped in our ...WEDDING Video. This is nearly 22 years old(next month).
The kids were still up and joined us as we watched our much younger selves going through the wedding looking decidedly nervous and naive....
Fraser was the most amused and said to us " Why would you do that in front of all those people?' Well we laughed and laughed.
How is it that you move so far through life that you end up hardly recognising the younger version of yourself?...
I am sure that as we make our way through the stack of videos we will wonder that thought over and over!

Catch-Up

The last few days have been quiet frenetic around here .. the weather has turned cold, wet and windy this weekend so I would like to say that has kept us indoors!!!!! but not this little family.
Had the fun of going to the craft fair on Friday with Friends..so much to see and be inspired by.
I just loved the banner display by students at the WAFTA

Also made a few small purchases to continue on with the creative efforts at home...purchases from here and here and here.
and just so I can justify my purchases I whipped up this cute bag with the fabric I purchased from here.

I have a couple of requests for some capes that i am nearly done making before Tuesday...
We also held our annual Leaders conference on Saturday morning which provided us with some great inspiration on being great leaders in whatever we are doing...
Then today after attending church we headed to the grandparents for a Lamb Roast oooooh how good was that. While some got stuck into the movie watching...
others pondered over some old photos....
and me?...I set the in-laws up with their own ebay account to help part with an abundance of goods!
There were a number of other things that we maneuvered through and now find ourselves preparing for the arrival of MONDAY and we are all aware of how each will feel when it arrives on our doorstep!
