My Creative Space

It's all about pirates around here.......

 Creating props and getting crafts ready for our week long holiday programme next week....

I enlisted the help of a creative friend to whip up this pirate boat today.

So excuse me if I am a little brief around these parts for the next week...I will be off having way too much fun with my pirate friends.

A touch sentimental

We  gave away our swing set today....

It was Taylor's

We spent till the wee hours in the morning back in 1998 putting it together for her surprise Christmas present

She was  two and three quarters

I can still see the surprise on her face upon the discovery

That was 14 years ago....

The kids don't use it anymore so the nieces and nephews will

The funniest things make me sentimental....get out the photo albums...travel down memory lane....

and be thankful that before blogging I scrapbooked all the trivial goings on in our life at the time.....

My Reading list

 

Not since I was in primary school have I kept a reading log until this last year.

I recorded on my sidebar , all the completed books as I read them. I didn't have a goal in mind ..just to read..something I have loved to do forever.

I did manage to read 23 books in 2012.

Now it is a new year I wanted to keep the record of those books before I wiped the slate clean to begin a new year....maybe read 1 book more , maybe I will use my time well and read lots more....no pressure just the gentle nudge to keep reading.

 Lots of signs of summer time around here.....lots of things demanding our attention...even for so early in the year....

Summer time pests...

I don't know about at your house but during the summer while the kids are home on holidays I am forever calling out 

"close the door"

One of my pet hates is flies buzzing around my house especially in the kitchen and the mozzies buzzing around my head in the night.

So when I had the opportunity to try out the new  

Mortein NaturGard Indoor Insect Control System I jumped at the chance.

 

The thing I like the best is that the spray is odorless, and contains 98% natural ingredients so the air isn't continually filled with that chemical smell that normal flysprays can tend to do.

You know how I can tell it is working......dead flies on the floor and no mozzie noises in the dark!!!! oh and their mates must get the message because less of them fly in through the still left open doors.

The start of my reading list for 2013....

and despite it being hot and school holidays our two are still able to show moments of sweetness....

It has been cooler the last few days which has been great to regroup before the next hot wave....

My Creative Space

In the race up to Christmas I didn't get to share one of the gifts I made....

We have two little nephews, one on each side of the family, both were one just a little before Christmas... 

Wanting something a little different and noncommercial I set about making them an "Eye Spy Bag". I used this tutorial .

I filled mine with rice that I coloured.

I then scouted around for lots of interesting little objects to add inside......my house is a bit like that...lots of little things floating around.

I didn't on this occasion make a printed card with all that I had hidden in there. ....little guys aren't really that interested I figured. 

I would definitely make these again as gifts...I think even the bigger kids would enjoy them...I know the mummies did!

A prayer needed...

For most of us the turn of the calender page has meant some new beginnings...new ideas , new goals, a fresh start with a blank page......

I have been following along with the journey of a family who are facing a very difficult time....

 For them the turn of the calender page is bringing uncertainty and growing sadness...

We have walked that road but it can be a lonely one even when you do meet someone on the same journey...

As I sat and coloured in with Fraser tonight I felt burdened to share this family's journey  with you and ask that you say a prayer for them and their brave girl....even if you are not in the habit of praying maybe you could stop by and leave some support..........

Happy New Year....

 As a child and teen I always loved this first day of the year....

A birthday the day before and Christmas not that long ago,  I always had new things to indulge in.....one of my favourites, a new diary.

I would write my first entry in my neatest handwriting and plan and ponder on all that was going to fill the pages.

Some years it lasted most of the days ...others just a month or two.

It is a long time since I have kept a diary  but in some ways blogging the last 3 1/2 years has been like keeping a diary of life for our family and my creative pursuits....so although not as personal as probably some of my earlier diaries {thankfully}, the feeling is the same..... to launch into a new year wondering what will fill these pages.....

Something that is the same as all those years ago is the shiny new things....

Let me show you some of the beautiful things I was blessed with for my birthday......

The most gorgeous little owls I have ever seen.....      

My in laws said they knew they were for me because they had the "you factor".
{I love that I have a "you factor"}......

 They have settled in well and are waiting for me to decide their final hanging spot....

The most divine heart shape tea cups from my sister and family......

{ The green one so that hubby can have a cuppa with me.... }

 Some White Chocolate Anzac biscuit treats.....I have a very creatively clever sister in law.....

A perfect for me skirt from my other sister and family...... 

Oh and this just may have to be my  motto to live by in 2013 ..........
