Yoghurt and Pecans

After some encouragement from friends and the reacquainting myself with
this fabulous book,I finally got to work and made my own yoghurt.....

We eat lots of yoghurt in this house.....we are pretty picky about the kind we eat too.....

So together with a warm day on Friday, my glass container, my starter and milk...oh and my new thermometer off I started......

The hardest part was waiting the nearly 12 hours to taste and see if it worked.....

It sat on our empty chicken coop for the better part of the day wrapped in a tea towel.....
Oh my, were we pleasantly rewarded for that little waiting exercise.....

It is delicious....

My grandfather who didn't eat yoghurt always said it was just "off milk" ...how right he was!!

The trick now is to make sure I keep aside a few tablespoons for the starter of the next lot before it all disappears....

It tastes so good on my cereal sprinkled with the other treat I made while waiting for the yoghurt.....

Maple syrup pecans.....

They are so irresistible....crunchy and sweet.....I need to remove them from the bench because at the cost of the pecans and the maple syrup we need them to last longer than a couple of days......

I used this recipe for the pecans

and if you don't have the Down to Earth book ...you can check out the yoghurt recipe here on her blog.

What a great feeling taking something else off the shopping list each week.....now I must go and save that starter yoghurt.

  2. Great work with the yoghurt! We now put our yoghurt into an esky that is filled with hot water when the weather is not warm enough outside, it works really well:)
